A repair we had added did not appear to take effect on a test mail server, even when re-run. Rather than ship another blind change, we extended the read-only diagnostics page so it reports the conditions the repair depends on.
This was instrumentation only, with no behavior change. The principle we kept returning to in this investigation: a small, permanent window onto real state beats iterating in the dark.
